Kelly Copeland | Look Development & Lighting
Crafting lived-in worlds through light and texture.
I am a Look Development and Lighting Artist dedicated to crafting environments that feel truly lived-in.
For me, a scene begins with mood. I focus on how light, color, and texture converge to create spaces that are atmospheric, believable, and rich with history. I’m fascinated by the small, imperfect details—the subtle wear on a wooden desk or the specific way dust catches a sunbeam—that make a world feel like it existed long before the camera arrived.
A Narrative Approach
My path into 3D animation wasn’t linear. With a background in Film and Psychology, I approach every project through a lens of emotional resonance. I’m not just checking for technical correctness; I’m asking how a scene feels. I use my understanding of human perception to guide my look development decisions, ensuring every material and light source supports the broader story.
Technical Toolkit
I thrive in the process of "figuring things out," whether I’m troubleshooting a complex procedural workflow or dialing in a final render until the atmosphere is just right. My primary toolkit includes:
-
Maya
-
Houdini
-
Substance Painter
-
Nuke
-
Premiere Pro
What Drives Me
I am most at home working on story-driven projects—ranging from soft, cinematic realism to playful, stylized worlds (and yes, I usually find a way to sneak a dinosaur into my personal projects).
I am currently seeking opportunities in Look Development and Lighting where I can contribute to immersive, atmospheric storytelling.
